Space Ace (SineRider)

I love how this theme jumps right into the action! Right away I feel thrust into a space dog fight or maybe as though I'm cruising at light speed. I suspect your username implies that you use these sorts of synth sounds often :) Good use of the old school samples and patches, they add greatly to the vintage nature of this piece.

Your bass line is clear and decisive with a tinny after tone which makes it easy to pick out. Much of the old arcade games were similar in this fashion and is what makes the music so easy to groove to. I had "toe tap" disease while listening to this. I don't care for unpronounced drums in 95% of songs, but in this rare case, your drums are spot on with the 1980's gaming scene. It is all about the cheese.

This song sounded clean and crisp and had very well mastered effects.

Bottom line: This entry met the criteria of the contest and deserves a score of 7.7. With an additional .2 bonus for complexity and .3 bonus for for old school arcadeness. Overall 8.2

Depths of Another World(Knoxius)

Until 1:44 I felt like this was just a typical, side-scrolling video game theme. But at this moment the song shifts into something neat. I really enjoy the full symphony orchestra joining in to play for a little bit. The shift to a slower tempo and feel helps layer the song and add an entire new dimension. 2:24 returns to the side-scrolling dance rave.

Theme illustration made me think of a "Lifeforce" like game that came to life in 3D when there was the shift to epic theme.

This song had clean quantizing, quality samples/patches, and ambiance added where needed.

Bottom line: This entry met the criteria of the contest and deserves a score of 7.8. With an additional .2 bonus for complexity and .1 bonus for epicness. Overall 8.1

Shooting at High Speed (Spikrodd)

It wasn't until at 54 seconds, that I could envision space as part of this theme. After that moment however spaceship barrel roles and flashing of lasers were dancing through my head. I think the high tempo grace notes really add to the feel of the "old" feeling the music here. And amazingly, the low quality sounds and samples really give a sense of being vintage here. The quantization of noting and chord placement was spot on, good job!

I feel Spikrodd really could have elaborated on the second theme that was presented here; it feels as though the idea was explored and then ended abruptly.

Another factor that took away from the epicness of this piece, was a lack of ambiance, the presence of the music sounded a tad dry and centered right in front of you with no stereo movement.

Bottom line: This entry met all of the criteria of the contest and deserves a solid score of 8. With an additional .2 bonus for complexity and .3 bonus for old school arcadeness. Overall 8.5

Very intense, I love it!

Nice piece of work! You have all kinds of melodic attitudes, sending the listener for a roller coaster ride of emotion! The tightness of the string instruments and the dynamics of your horns were very impressive. I know this was for a game, but my mind's eye pictured a few people getting chased through a castle and into the courtyard of the castle where a standoff takes place. The slower portion of the song sounds like a flashback or a slow motion capture of the fight that is about to ensue! Sorry I got carried away with my imagination. This would be fun to make a cartoon out of! Hey wait, this song could work in my cartoon! Check out Fantastic Realm (my cartoon) sometime if you have a chance! Chapter 2 preferably, 1 is very old and tired.

I remember Fantastic Realm well Tyler! I have watched the first and second long ago, and watch them again from time to time. Your art is remarkable (the jump between the frst and second equally remarkable). I wonder what you can do now that 3 years have passed since. That story you wrote actually reminds me of those 2 main characters of your second installment. Sorry I SUCK with names, the girl and the peasent.

That secret passageway being key for that thrd installment i'm sure ;D!

If you do intend to use the track feel free to!

Thanks for the review, i'm glad you liked it!

Very cool.

Very uplifting melody. I really dig the sound splice, reminds me of the silverhawks hawk sound. But anyway, my head was bobbin to this, nice solid beat!

Thanks man! I loved your submission lol!

Head spinning effects!

Awesome spacial effects. Had my head spinning! I really think you embraced a "light" feel for our aura as well. Props to you on this one!

Jebbal responds:

Do you really mean spacial? Or special? Because those are two somewhat differently different things! Either way, its a good thing right? Ya!

Thanks for the review! Go light aura!

Monday night football theme can eat your shorts!

This totally sounds like the music to a sports highlight run or like you designed it for... Any sports clip. The epic nature of it sound like it belongs with Stanley cup, super bowl, or world series video shots blasting in your face of intense mvp plays and such. I can see graphic imagery of helmets slamming together, and hear Pat Summeral and John Madden announcing dramatic team lineups. Amazing play on melodies that can invoke that sort of automatic thought. Tempo is perfect for the feel your going for, orchestra hits are very high quality and not cheesey, nice drums too! Cheers, this is really good.

Fantastic version!

The thing I love about this song is that it can be played in any style and sound wonderful. Death metal or elevator jazz, this song will prevail. I absolutely love what you have done with it, I always like your stuff though. Good job.

Excellent

This song is very pleasant to listen to. I have been away from NG for a time so I appologize for only seeing/listening to it now. Everything is very well balanced, nothing too loud and nothing too quite. I have let it loop a few times now, excellent work, you got me hooked! But again, nice work, this is professional quality and talent.

Rig responds:

Thanks! I never thought it would get all this attention. :)

Much of the flash work done in the past 5 years has been at a professional level, so we are sorry not much has been posted on Newgrounds. FR 3 is still a project that we will see through to completion SOMEDAY. :)
