I'm not a fan of the dry recording of your voice. Voice needs to have some kind of chorus of reverb in my opinion, or it just rubs my ears wrong. Every imperfection is enhanced when you don't do this. As a result, your voice sounds very rough in this piece and the lack of quality distracts from the other very creative things are you are doing here. I liked the beat idea, it works. Lyrics tell a story that actually mean something, good to hear. Agh but then there are pops and clicks too in your voice recording again. Your mic, is it mounted properly? Its pleasing that you know how to harmonize somewhat too.
Overall good idea, crappy implementation. Score: 5

I just got the idea from the NAC forum post, that you guys didn't want us to add any effects, and keep it clean :( So I was also confused when the other contesters had reverb; If I had knew that, I would probably add reverb and stuff, because I also think it sounds better, or at least it's good at hiding noise :)

But thanks for the review!

Excellent work

I like the different take on this melody! I will always have a special place in my heart for this game, it got me out of a very difficult and dark part of my life. Your sounds used are very crisp and precise. Your effects create the spacial effect of things surrounding and spinning around your head. Great job on this! Looking forward to more of your work.

Cat Fish : Cory MacNiven (Quarl)
This has a very messy and experimental feel to it. In its own category I think this would be very successful, however I find very little of this song uplifting. Rather it is confusing and has themes that are unresolved and presents more minor feelings than major. Your talent is obvious and your time and effort are not wasted, but as far as this contest goes, I feel that this piece was not meeting the criteria.

[dB] Underwater Scenic Route : Daniel B (Decibel)
This has an implied beat and an actual beat. Nice job with reading the contest criteria. There are major chord progressions and themes that are resolved majorly, I got the feeling that this played an uplifting and positive aura constantly. I felt like I was floating (or gliding through water) with the soft pads and soft leads that were used. The journey you illustrated with your music was very cool. You met the expectation of the criteria of the contest. Good job. 8.8

Decibel responds:

I'm glad you liked it, I tried my best to illustrate the whole 'Underwater' theme.
Glad you like it, again :P

This is a very 1970's approach to this contest. I love that this doesn't sound all electronic and bass pumping. Your idea is very refreshing, back to real live instrument playing, sadly is unique in this day in age. I respect classics and even the spirit of classic, which this embodies. This implies an uplifting and heavenly feeling with the melody and chord progression. Peace and relaxation are also heavily implied which go very well with the contest criteria as well. Very good job on this. 9.1

Hey man thanks for the review , i remember that you also reviewed "happy song" days ago and i didn't know you were a NAC Judge.
I really don't like to stick only to one genre, i like experimenting with different genres, so yeah i have some variety of songs here.

Thanks

COOL

This has an entrancing heartbeat thing going on. That voice was a little creepy hehe. I loved the slow moving nature of the beat and melody. This is definitely charged with some emotions, other than happiness. I feel some hate and agression mixed in, which is wonderful. Good job on this, I was rockin.

Awesome and thanks for the review!

Again Excellent

Another work of yours that is bound for the movies or a video game. This reminds me a bit of the epic sounding music of Oblivion. I loved listening to this a few times.

Thank you! :D I am glad you liked it! Really? I love the Oblivion OST. :)

Beautiful

This is an excellent piano piece. There is a lot of emotion charged in this melody. Excellent work on this. Somebody should be singing to this!

AshleyAlyse responds:

Aww, thank you! :D Someone singing? Now, there's a thought! :)

Very cool

Excellent sounds used here! I like slow moving string/wind themes such as this, they invoke so much emotion. This sounds like it belongs in a dramatic moment in a movie.

AshleyAlyse responds:

Thank you kindly! :) I'm glad you think so. :3

Nice Soundtrack-esque fell

Nice orchestration. Sounds like something that belongs in a panorama shot of a valley or canyon in a movie. Maybe even capturing the sadness of death or a long journey. It definitely has the workings of a soundtrack for a movie or video game. Good job on this.

thank you so much for reviewing, and there will be more tracks posted!!

Much of the flash work done in the past 5 years has been at a professional level, so we are sorry not much has been posted on Newgrounds. FR 3 is still a project that we will see through to completion SOMEDAY. :)
