Acid Paradox - Galaxy
Ruben (Acid-Paradox)
This is a seriously strong beat and I really enjoyed the high quality patches and synths used. I feel like the portamento on the lead, may have been a bit overused. The result being a 1950's science fiction sounding melody. I loved the choice of chord progression, and the pads in the background really filled the empty space well. The lead vocals also had that overused portamento effect I spoke of. I understand how easily you find something that sounds amazing and end up overusing it. Just be mindful of how your audience interprets things, and normal music listeners get annoyed and bored very easily. Overall this has a crystal clear sound and an intensely strong and cool beat. Way to fit the contest criteria very well! 9.2

Acid-Paradox responds:

lol i didn't noticed that the vocals had portamento until i read this. I agree with the lead though , i think i overused it , it's just that i couldn't find something to put there and i just had one day left to finish this.

Thanks!

This instrumentation reminded me of the techno style orchestration that one would hear in the movies in the 1990's. Some generic, yet effective sounds are being used, but that works well in this song. That has to be one of the worst bell chimes I have ever heard though. It sounds like it was recorded off of my grandfather clock. I think the a more massive approach would have been more effective. The melody at the 2/3rds mark of this song starts off like it is going to be neat, but ends up lackluster and frankly, weak and boring. The beat is incredibly strong and has my body jerking to the tempo! Good job sticking to the contest criteria. 8.0

What a rediculous tempo. Both of these songs sound like they are in fast forward. I honestly cannot appreciate the original or your take on it. The melody is not enjoyable, the beat repeats and repeats and repeats and repeats. I just hear pounding and a melody that would have maybe made sense at half this speed. I know my own bias is really hurting my judgement on this. You were successful in keeping true to the original elements of the source material though. So you did follow the criteria of the contest. I liked the solo in there towards the end, but again think it would have sounded 1000% better if it were slowed down a bit with the rest of the song. Your instrumentation sounds like a typical rave trance/techno song. 6.0

sorry it was to fast for you to enjoy.

This is VERY different from the source material you were remixing. The original had a pounding beat and yours borderlines with easy listening until the half-way point. I really like it when two different styles are mixed together. Like with some of the other submissions, you have a very cool reverbing lead and melody, will evolving into a grinding bass beat. Then it quickly all subsides back into the quiet and easy bit again. Not too long and not too short, the perfect length. Good job on this and way to stick within the contest criteria. 9.0

The original... same boring dubstep-esque beat I hear thousands of times. However, your twist and remix brings new life and new perspective. You have a beat that makes more sense, you have a melody that is clear and distinct. I feel the beginning and end of the sound drug on a bit and you could have had a shorter intro and shorter outro as well. At 1:30 though it was a treat to listen to what you came up with. This had a very mysterious feel to it, with a flavor of action and excitement. 8.5

Your source that you chose to remix was incredibly short and did not any substance. However, your version that was drawn out into an entire song redeems the poor choice of source material. I found your song to be very easy to listen to and had many different feelings being illustrated. I am not a fan of dubstep-esque leads and grinding pads, but it sounds decent with a background of melody from other instrumentation. Good job on this. 7.5

TIMarbury responds:

Thanks dude. I guess choosing a random thing to "remix" hurt my scoring in a way but as long as you enjoyed what I created I think that is a plus for me. Was a fun contest for sure.

Awesome job breathing new life and excitement into a remix of a remix! You have brought a fourth dimension to this song and I really like what I am hearing. What a refreshing take on the instrumentation as well. I like the hard gritty base line, and the reverbing leads and piano sounding patches. It is like elevator music meets grindstep. Good job on this, and way to stick to the contest criteria. 9.2

jpbear responds:

Paragon's Metropolis is an original actually, although it is Megaman styled. I tried to be creative in my remixing and i guess it showed. I actually happen to love elevator music :3

The play on the children's song at the beginning is ultra creepy! The echoes created a sense of running, just as your voice clip implied for us listeners to do. The song and tempo build up to a full run, obviously from something terribly evil. Good story telling here. The obscure voice clips later in the song just add to the evil story that is being told. Gave me chills, good job on this one. Way to follow the contest criteria! 8.0

This starts of very quiet and soft and rushes into a welcomed harder, chunky guitar melody. This type of guitar playing, implies dispair and struggle. The rhythm section plays very tight, you have good skill with your instrumentation. I was rocking and tapping my foot to the easy to follow beat. This song painted a scenario, right in line with the contest criteria. Sweet job on this! 8.5

The rustling sound effects make me nervous! EEEEEk. Nice playful melody, I really enjoyed the un-typical instrumentation, I heard many styles being mixed. These factors all lend themselves to an amazing unique listening experience that, when coupled with a minor melody such as the one you are using, creeps me the F out. Good job in sticking to the criteria that the song laid out. 8.2

I love this review :3

Much of the flash work done in the past 5 years has been at a professional level, so we are sorry not much has been posted on Newgrounds. FR 3 is still a project that we will see through to completion SOMEDAY. :)
